Requirements for tool holder in CNC machining

2026-09-11

Accuracy requirement: micrometer level deviation control

The core accuracy indicators of the tool holder are the repeatability positioning accuracy and tool runout value. Conventional precision machining requires runout control within 0.003mm, and high-speed machining scenarios even require micrometer level accuracy. A high-precision tool holder can ensure that the tool position is consistent after multiple tool changes, avoiding size deviations in batch processing, while reducing tool vibration and ensuring the surface smoothness of the workpiece.

Rigid requirement: No deformation during heavy-duty processing

The tool holder needs to have sufficient rigidity to resist deformation and vibration caused by cutting forces during heavy cutting and high-speed machining. High quality tool holders will be made of high-strength alloy steel, mold steel and other materials, strengthened by heat treatment, and optimized in structural design to ensure stability under high load conditions such as milling and drilling, and to avoid tool breakage and rough machining surfaces due to insufficient rigidity.

Adaptation and durability requirements

Interface adaptation: It is necessary to perfectly match the interface standards of the machine tool spindle (such as BMT, HSK, BT and other mainstream specifications), and the connection should be stable and not loose after installation, to avoid tool seat displacement caused by centrifugal force during high-speed rotation.

Wear resistant and corrosion-resistant: The surface of the tool holder needs to be treated with blackening, coating and other protective measures to resist cutting fluid corrosion and iron chip wear, and extend its service life; At the same time, the sealing performance should meet the standard to prevent cutting fluid from infiltrating the interior and damaging the transmission components.

Dynamic balance performance: During high-speed machining, the tool holder needs to undergo dynamic balance calibration to avoid centrifugal force caused by uneven mass distribution, which may cause vibration or even damage to the machine tool spindle.

Convenience requirement: Efficient tool change and cost reduction

The tool holder should support a quick tool change design to reduce downtime and improve production efficiency; At the same time, the matching locking bolts must meet the 12.9 level high-strength standard, ensuring firm clamping and avoiding thread damage caused by excessive tightening.
